My hands-on experience with GPT-4o
GPT-4o: Impressive features, but not (yet) a corporate game-changer
GPT-4o (o for omni) has been all over the news for two weeks since its launch. Let’s look at the practical side - can we use the new GPT-4o to get stuff done in a corporate-y setting?
Very short version: I don’t think the chatty 4o functions are life-changing for most business use cases. That said, ChatGPT 4.0 is still the go-to LLM for most corporate users.
The longer version: ChatGPT 4o boasts some impressive new features like voice chat and image recognition. That said, they are probably rather gimmicky (for now) and not overly practical in a typical corporate setting. The real value of ChatGPT comes from its ability to handle complex tasks that require context and memory (problem-solving, summarizing information, and brainstorming ideas) – something the 4o model doesn't significantly improve upon.
Also, in a corporate environment, many tasks involve careful consideration, collaboration with colleagues, and access to company-specific information. These aspects aren't necessarily improved by the real-time chat and image recognition capabilities of ChatGPT 4o.
That said, if your company has a well-structured knowledge base integrated with ChatGPT, the 4o model could become a game-changer by providing quick access to relevant information and insights. However, this potential is already present in ChatGPT 4.0.
